The council welcomed representatives of the Raleigh Summer Youth Employment Program and heard from returning participants who serve as program ambassadors.
Rebecca Dixon, introduced by the chair as from community engagement, described the 43-year-old city workforce initiative that hires youth ages 15 to 18 for work experiences and leadership development. She said the program’s alumni alliance connects former participants to collegiate and career advice and continues civic engagement opportunities beyond the summer program.
Meta Grama, a member of the Alumni Alliance, told council she has participated in the program for three years and said it provides mentorship and real-world experience that helped her grow as a leader. “It doesn’t just provide a job, it provides mentorship, guidance, and real world experience,” Meta said.
Councilors thanked the ambassadors and noted potential pathways for alumni to serve on boards and commissions that seek members ages 18–21. The council took a group photo with the ambassadors during the meeting.
