San Antonio Zoning Commission approves several rezoning requests, continues two to March 3

Chair John Bustamante, District 5 zoning commissioner, opened the City of San Antonio Zoning Commission meeting and the panel moved through a packed agenda that included multiple rezoning requests, continuances and procedural announcements.

Several items were approved after staff presentations, applicant remarks and limited public comment. On the consent agenda, the commission approved item 9, a rezoning at 403 Blanco Court Road, after the applicant amended the request to IDZ‑1 with uses permitted in RM‑6 and Neighborhood Commercial. Cynthia Walker, chair of the Beacon Hill design and urban design committee, left a voicemail saying the neighborhood association unanimously supported the change to allow parking and keep future housing options open.

Lehi Ratana, zoning planner with Development Services, presented Item 2 (904 Pleasanton Road and 347 West Sayers Avenue). Staff recommended approval for 904 Pleasanton and denial for 347 West Sayers because the latter parcel had a recently demolished dwelling and staff said commercial zoning could encroach into the neighborhood. Applicant Patrick Christiansen said the goal was to provide parking to serve Gonzaga Medical Group and that any future medical clinic rezoning would be requested later. Commissioner John Hinojosa moved to approve item 2 as amended to C1S for a noncommercial parking lot; the motion was seconded and carried by roll call.
