Parkland names new vice mayor; Broward Sheriff's Office and fire department report safety updates

Vice Mayor Israel nominated Commissioner Breyer for the vice‑mayor post; the nomination was seconded and adopted unanimously by roll call. "I am honored," Breyer said after the vote as the gavel was passed.
Captain Michelle McCardell of the Broward Sheriff's Office presented October activity statistics, including calls for service and crash/citation figures, and emphasized community partnerships to address e-bike and e-scooter safety. "If you do see any type of electric vehicle in the park, call 911 if it's a safety issue," McCardell said, and she encouraged residents to submit videos or tips so deputies can investigate and cite juveniles where appropriate.
A Coral Springs Parkland Fire Department representative reported 176 EMS calls for the month, three fire calls, and announced that the department’s public-education officer received a county award. Fire staff also said the regional dispatch hub and CAD-system integration continue to be tested and are progressing toward operational readiness.
Commissioners thanked public-safety partners and reiterated the need for community education and reporting to improve enforcement and safety outcomes.
