DeSoto council approves consent agenda, appoints citizen adviser; resident praises Thorn Tree purchase

The DeSoto City Council unanimously approved its consent agenda on Feb. 3, which included approval of a Jan. 9 special meeting minutes, authorization for the city manager to accept completion of the 2023 Allen paving project, appointment of Lester Ray Gieson Jr. to the Citizen Police Advisory Commission (Place 3), and authorization for vehicle and equipment contracts including a purchase contract not to exceed $67,842 for a 2024 chassis and an agreement not to exceed $105,000 for brush truck bed repair/uptfit.
Mayor Pro Tem Crystal Chisholm moved approval and Council Member Leticia Hughes seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
During citizen appearances, Robert Davis, a DeSoto resident who identified himself as a retired colonel, commended the council for the purchase and maintenance of Thorn Tree and urged continued community support.
Council recognized the newly appointed commissioner and asked him to stand for acknowledgement.
