Dane said he is building a Clallam County 250 website and offered to act as a liaison to the loosely organized county committee. "I am building a website for them because they don't have a website," he said, noting the site will list events and give potential partners a place to post plans.
Board members proposed a mix of homegrown activities and partnerships: a short lecture series in the old courthouse that could be broadcast by Zoom, open-house courthouse tours that showcase historic spaces (excluding the clock tower if facilities staff advise against tours), and a county time capsule developed with student and community input. "It gets people in the old courthouse," one member said of the plan to link lectures with tours.
Members discussed logistics and oversight: coordinate with courts and county facilities to confirm access and fire marshal capacity; consult the countys agenda schedule if the board wants a presentation at a Commissioners' work session (materials typically must be in the packet by the Wednesday before a Monday session); and use a press release or a hosted SurveyMonkey link to solicit time-capsule suggestions while preserving public-records requirements.
The board also suggested leveraging existing local resources such as the North Olympic History Center, DAR chapters, Peninsula College and the Port Angeles Library to host screenings, talks and student activities tied to the 250th week.
Next steps: Dane will draft an outline of a lecture-series proposal and follow up with county staff about putting the item on a Commissioner work session agenda; the HAB set its next meeting for April 6 to continue planning.
