Commissioner Lucy Holland proposes extending tax-relief application deadline to June 30
Summary
At a Feb. 17 Manassas Park governing-body meeting, Commissioner Lucy Holland proposed amending ordinance section 22-28 to move the tax-relief application deadline from April 1 to June 30; city staff said the change would not affect city revenue and the measure will be voted at the next meeting.

Commissioner Lucy Holland proposed changing the filing deadline for tax-relief (exemption) applications from April 1 to June 30, saying the later date would give staff and residents more time after the federal and local tax-filing window.
"We just wanna know if we can extend the deadline to, June 30 for tax relief applications," Holland said during a public hearing on Feb. 17.
Holland said the current April 1 deadline is difficult because residents do not always file their taxes until April 15 and some applicants require home visits to complete paperwork. Council members asked whether moving the deadline would affect the city’s revenue timing. The city manager responded, "It won't have any impact on the revenues at all." Holland confirmed the change is intended to improve administrative timing rather than change tax liability.
No members of the public spoke at the hearing. After discussion, the governing body voted to close the public hearing and scheduled the ordinance amendment for a formal vote at the next meeting, saying it will appear on the consent agenda.
If adopted, the amendment would change the administrative due date for exemption affidavits and late filing of real estate tax relief applications; the amendment does not change statutory state filing deadlines. The governing body set the next meeting date for March 3, when the item is slated for a vote.
