Gonzales community center opens with youth programs, bookable meeting space

City staff told the Measure K Oversight Committee on Feb. 24 that the Gonzales community center is open and offering programming for young people and families.
The staff member said the Boys & Girls Club is running sessions Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, and the city is providing homework help and drop-in support on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturday mornings. A guitar club run by a Boys & Girls Club volunteer and other activities are also planned.
Staff said the library within the facility will have a small study room that can be booked and that one-time meetings are easier to schedule; recurring bookings may be subject to a small sliding-scale fee for nonprofits so the space remains available to a range of users.
The staff member said a grand-opening event is planned and staff will confirm the date and time; committee members were encouraged to help spread the word about services and booking procedures to community groups and families.
