Board approves beach-condition survey funding amendment after storm impacts

Town staff told the board that recent offshore storms produced noticeable changes to portions of the town's beaches and recommended a fall beach-condition survey to inform the ongoing beach nourishment project that is currently out to bid.
"This survey and analysis will deliver critical data," Public Services staff member David said, presenting two proposals: McKim & Creed for $44,228 (land- and water-based surveys) and Moffatt & Nichol for $26,350 (analysis). Staff requested adoption of Capital Project Ordinance Amendment No. 17 to cover the fall survey and next summer's monitoring. The amendment increased the beach program total to approximately $16,571,905 with the additional survey costs.
Commissioners moved and approved the ordinance amendment by voice vote. Staff said survey results should be ready for the mid-December workshop.
The board asked for schedule and solicitation updates as the town proceeds with the nourishment procurement.
