At public comment, resident John Cici said he had prepared a spreadsheet showing the project’s spending distribution and argued that the town would spend roughly one‑third of the $36 million on a single mile of shoreline, questioning whether property owners in that reach were paying a fair share. “That just does not seem fair to me at all,” Cici said.
Commissioners approved three separate motions at the meeting: to issue the notice of award to Weeks Marine, to authorize the town manager to sign the construction contract, and to approve Capital Project Ordinance Amendment No. 18 to allow for pre‑audit and to add contingencies and financing costs. The motions carried by voice vote with no opposition recorded in the transcript.
Town staff said the ordinance amendment will be updated as final contingency and financing numbers are pinned down and that the LGC review will follow the town’s submission. The board acknowledged significant planning and post‑storm urgency for the project but did not specify an exact construction schedule at the meeting.
