Council approves two annexations and initial zoning near Snake River and Lehi area

Snake River Landing area: Council approved an ordinance annexing approximately 18.554 acres near Snake River Parkway and Milligan Road and assigned a comprehensive plan designation of Mixed Use Centers and Corridors and initial LC (limited commercial) zoning with the controlled development airport overlay. Staff said the parcel will be part of the city's urban renewal district and that tax-increment financing could reimburse infrastructure such as Milligan Road. Planning Commission had recommended unanimous approval. Councilor Lee Radford moved the annexation and related actions under suspension of the rules; the motion carried on a roll-call vote.
Lehi / Sage Lakes area: The council also approved an owner-initiated annexation of roughly 1.5 acres in the Lehi/65th North area (near Sage Lakes Golf Course) and assigned a general urban comprehensive-plan designation and initial R2 (mixed residential) zoning with required airport overlay. Planning Commission had delivered a unanimous positive recommendation, and council approved the ordinance readings and associated reasoned statements.
Votes and process: Both annexations were approved under suspension of the standard three-reading rules and were read by title and published by summary per council action. Staff emphasized these annexations are owner-initiated and that planning and public-notice procedures, including a planning commission review, were followed.
What it means: The larger Snake River Landing annexation is tied to ongoing redevelopment and urban-renewal planning in the river corridor and may underpin future infrastructure spending and private development. The smaller Lehi annexation brings a residential parcel into city service areas as nearby bridge and road improvements (65th North) increase traffic and connectivity.
Next steps: Staff will amend city limits and planning maps, and the city planner was instructed to reflect the annexations and initial zoning in the comprehensive plan and mapping records.
