Ulster County approves multiple United Way contract amendments funding youth employment programs

During discussion a committee member asked how many youth the program serves; Sharon from the county Office of Employment and Training said the year-round program is serving about 167 young people based on 2025 figures and that a new cohort is currently working.
Sharon said worksites for the program include local nonprofits and small businesses — examples given were the YMCA, the Boys & Girls Club and county placements — and that small businesses interested in becoming worksites can submit a request on ulsterworks.com or contact the Office of Employment and Training at (845) 340-3170. She emphasized program requirements: worksites must host at least two young people (the program does not do solo placements), provide an on-site supervisor and be prepared to mentor and coach participants entering their first work experience. "For many young people this is their first work experience," Sharon said.
The committee also adopted two additional United Way contract amendments. Resolution 124 was presented as an amendment to fund summer youth payroll services with a listed term of July 30, 2026 through July 30, 2027.
