Board approves variable-term waiver so near-credentialed aviation teacher can continue while finishing credential

The Glendora Unified School District Board of Education approved a variable-term waiver that will allow an aviation teacher who is one class short of a career technical education credential to remain in the classroom while finishing credential requirements.
"These waivers are only used when all efforts to hire a fully credentialed teacher don't come up with a fully credentialed teacher," Dr. Osborne explained. He said the teacher has been working to clear credentials for several years and is "almost fully credentialed and has one class left to complete their CTE...which will include English learner authorization through a class certificate." The waiver permits continued assignment while the teacher completes that class.
Board members moved and seconded the measure and approved the application by a 4-0 vote.
District staff said the waiver follows the Commission on Teacher Credentialing process and is used only when hiring fully credentialed teachers is not possible.
