The Abilene Parks Board voted to keep the Ford Imagination Playground at its current site after staff reported underground utilities under a proposed alternate location.
Leslie, a parks staff member who led the investigation, told the board there is a fiber line and water lines beneath the alternate site and said those utilities would complicate any relocation. "There is a fiber line. There is water lines that go under there," Leslie said, and staff recommended leaving the playground where it is.
Leslie also reported that conversations with the Junior League — which has been involved in fundraising around the playground — indicated the group was comfortable leaving the structure at its existing location. Staff advised that moving the playground would require rerouting utilities and likely add substantial costs and construction complexity.
A presenter moved to return the Ford Imagination Playground proposed location "to where it was," the chair seconded, and the board approved the motion with no recorded opposition.
The board did not take public comment on the item at the meeting. Staff will proceed with plans to keep the playground at its current location and incorporate the board’s direction into any communications with project funders and partners.
