Idaho Falls council approves waterline, lift-station and meter purchases; appoints new fire chief

Highland Park water line: Public works presented a plan to replace just over half a mile of water line on West Crowley Street and Wadsworth Drive. The council awarded the project to Suncor Construction Material Inc. for $1,000,003 and authorized the mayor and city clerk to sign required documents.
Fire chief appointment: The council approved the appointment of Johan Olsen as the new fire chief for the Idaho Falls Fire Department; staff said Olsen previously served with the department from 2007'2021 and is expected to begin in March, with a swearing-in to follow.
Fanning Lift Station and meters: Council approved a $105,008.63 quote from Mountain West Waterworks to rebuild the Fanning Lift Station and accepted a sole-source purchase from Hydro Specialties Company for Badger water meters and cellular endpoints totaling $208,560 to replenish inventory.
Legal services: The council approved an increase in authorized legal spending for an impact-fee lawsuit, raising the not-to-exceed authority for Gibbons Parsley LLP to $300,000 after staff reported current bills were near the earlier cap.
