The Brentwood Planning Commission reviewed a revised site plan for Brentwood United Methodist at 309 Franklin Road that proposes modifications to an existing exterior ramp to make it more accessible and the reconfiguration of accessible parking spaces.
Staff (Speaker 1) described the plan, saying, “The proposed revisions include modifications to an existing exterior ramp to make it more accessible.” The revision will remove seven noncompliant accessible parking spaces; based on the site’s total parking count staff said three additional compliant accessible spaces will be required and requested that those three be located near the new ramp.
A commissioner (Speaker 7) disclosed membership in Brentwood United Methodist and confirmed the intent to vote: “I'm a member of Brentwood methods but I'm still going to vote on the item, but just disclosure just to be sure,” the commissioner said during the meeting.
An applicant representative (Speaker 10) described the planned layout adjustments and minor grading needed to meet ADA slope requirements, explaining the intent to reconfigure an aisle and place ADA stalls near the ramp. Speaker 10 said staff will perform final review and that the changes will involve some striping and minor grading to get cross‑slope under the 2 percent threshold.
Staff requested authority to approve the final location of the three replacement accessible stalls; commissioners emphasized they would require the applicant to appear again if the final outcome was unacceptable. Commissioners and staff also noted the likely need to restripe some regular spaces and the possibility of losing one parking space to accommodate accessible geometry.
Next steps: staff will take responsibility for final approval of the accessible parking layout under the conditions discussed, with the expectation that the applicant will return to the commission if the finished layout does not meet the commission’s expectations.
