The Abilene City Council adopted a written resolution today formalizing its prior appointment of Katie Gore as Municipal Court Judge and set a two-year term beginning the next day, as required by the charter.
Stanley Smith, the city attorney, told the council the charter provides the Municipal Court Judge serves a two-year term and the resolution before council would formalize the earlier appointment and set the term start. The council opened a public hearing, heard no public comment on the item, and then voted to adopt the resolution. After the vote, the council administered the oath and swore in Katie Gore; she repeated the oath, stating, “I, Katie Gore, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the duties of the office of the municipal court judge ... and will to the best of my ability preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution and laws of the State of Texas.”
Council members who participated in the vetting process were thanked by the mayor after the swearing-in. The council recorded the action as approved with the motion carrying at the meeting.
The resolution formalizes an appointment the council had previously made and establishes the judge’s two-year term beginning on the date stated in the resolution.
