Board appoints Dr. Kibler as Queen Anne's County superintendent

The Queen Anne's County Board of Education on Feb. 4 voted to appoint Doctor Kibler as superintendent for a four‑year term beginning July 1, 2026, after board members praised his work stabilizing district operations and improving transparency.

Board President Capes called for any remarks before the vote; multiple members thanked Kibler for addressing urgent operational challenges, improving fiscal transparency and planning, and fostering relationships with staff and the community. One board member cited rapid progress "bringing the district's budget to clear focus with improved transparency, accountability, and strategic planning." Another member, speaking as a parent, said Kibler's visible presence at school and community events helped restore confidence.

The motion to appoint Doctor Kibler was made, seconded and approved by voice vote. Kibler spoke briefly, thanking the board and community and saying his top priorities will be student achievement, and the safety and support of students. "Every decision that we make must reflect our commitment to ensuring that all students are supported, challenged, and able to learn in safe, welcoming environments," he said.

The board also approved, by separate motion, a human‑resources report and an interim superintendent contract amendment (recorded as approved in open session), after those items were discussed in closed session. The board did not provide detailed contract language during the public vote.

The appointment takes effect July 1; the board did not announce additional implementation details or a formal investiture timetable.

What comes next: the superintendent and administration will continue presenting budget and academic plans tied to priorities Kibler listed during his remarks. The board scheduled follow‑up budget work sessions in mid‑February and March.
