District says early Chromebook buy saved $282,807 on summer device refresh

He reported the district’s total cost for the summer deployment was $498,001.31 and that under the newly released REMSI pricing the same devices would have cost about $780,938, “so by acting when we did, we realized a direct hard dollar savings of $282,807.” He added that all devices have already been received and that the early purchase also avoided supply‑chain delays.
Board members praised the decision as fiscally responsible and noted the savings could be redirected toward classrooms and instruction. No further board action was required beyond the earlier procurement approvals.
