Lauren Bennett McGinty, executive director of Explore Minnesota, told the committee the amendment fixes drafting errors that inadvertently multiplied seats and clarifies that the council should have one representative from each of the five tourism marketing regions rather than five from each region. “For some reason, it was edited to be 5 representatives from each of the touring tourism marketing regions versus 1 representative from each of the 5 regions,” McGinty said, urging the committee to adopt the correction.
Members asked about the removal of an automatic co‑chair designation for the executive director and the Department of Employment and Economic Development commissioner; McGinty acknowledged drafting mistakes and said staff would prepare a follow-up amendment to clarify chairing roles. Representative Pinto praised the effort to streamline the council and said the language could be corrected as the bill moves forward.
The committee adopted the amendment by voice vote and moved the bill forward. The sponsor described the measure as an efficiency package intended to improve participation and reduce redundancies on the advisory council.
