At its March 10 meeting the Kings County Board of Supervisors presented Women of the Year recognitions across districts, adopted a resolution designating March 2026 as Women’s History Month, and approved a separate proclamation recognizing March as Social Worker Appreciation Month.
Giselle Coy, administrative analyst with Kings County administration, introduced the honorees selected by each supervisor and the county CEO. District honorees included Anne Warmerdam Badashi (District 1), Nicole Vallee (District 2), Cindy Kelly (District 3), Kelly Maderos (District 4), and Emily Carpenter (District 5, accepted posthumously by her mother Amy Carpenter). Coy also introduced Sarah Hacker as the CEO’s honoree; staff and prosecutors praised Hacker’s leadership and commitment to victims’ advocacy.
Christopher Nares, deputy director of the adults division for the Human Services Agency, asked the board to recognize Social Worker Appreciation Month and summarized division workload statistics for 2025, including IHSS reassessments and new applications. Natasha Endress, program manager for child welfare, highlighted child‑welfare referrals and reunifications.
While on the consent/regular calendar the board also authorized routine items including delegation to county counsel to contract outside counsel and personnel investigators up to $100,000 per contractor per year, approved letters of support for three Adventist Health earmark requests (including a $1,105,151 telesimulation request), and authorized the chairman to sign a letter of support for the proposed F‑35 aircraft maintenance hangar at Naval Air Station Lemoore. The board also authorized up to $75,000 in appropriations to complete a donated flagpole project (engineered footings, contractor installation, and lighting) with funds expected to come from general fund contingencies.
Votes on the proclamations and the listed consent/regular calendar items were recorded by roll call; staff will return with contract drafts, franchise agreements, and additional details where required.
Next steps: staff will record and publish the resolutions and letters of support, complete the flagpole procurement work, and continue outreach and implementation steps tied to approved items.
