Bay Ridge residents press League City for clearer timelines on road and storm-pump projects

Residents of the Bay Ridge subdivision pressed League City council on Jan. 13 for clearer timelines and better communication on long-running road and drainage projects.
Marika Fuller said equipment was removed from the Bay Ridge entrance months after a contractor had promised completion and urged the city to finish the work before June 1, when hurricane season begins. "Soon, there'll be an accident," she said, describing drivers using the wrong lane because of the torn-up road.
Dave Bowman, a retired civil engineer who said he has lived in Bay Ridge for 44 years, described repeated stretches with no contractor activity and asked the city to provide visibility into the operation of the recently completed storm pump system, including detention-pond levels and when the pumps are run. "I'm still waiting for the residents to be able to see anything on how that system is in operation," Bowman said.
Bowman asked the city to correct cases where driveways have been left inaccessible during construction and to improve the League City interactive projects website, which he said "rarely seems to change." Both speakers urged faster and more consistent contractor performance and clearer reporting so residents can verify that drainage systems function before the next hurricane season.
Council did not vote on specific project remedies at the meeting; council members acknowledged the complaints and said staff will take the concerns into account as they follow up with contractors and project managers.
