Board hears strategic-plan data measures and moves to adopt STAR with EduCLIMBER integration
Summary
The district’s strategic-plan team presented selected performance measures (state assessment, STAR interim benchmarks, credit accrual, language proficiency, chronic absenteeism) and plans to use EduCLIMBER to aggregate student data; the superintendent and staff noted STAR’s selection by the state and potential budget implications for implementation.

Des, who led the strategic-plan update, summarized the team’s work to identify priority data measures the district will track under the strategic plan. Des said the team prioritized conventional measures such as Oregon State assessment data, STAR interim benchmark data, credit accrual/credit-recovery rates, language-proficiency measures and chronic absenteeism/daily average attendance.
Des said the strategic plan will include data visualizations and that some measures will require new systems (for example, exit interviews and first-year teacher experience surveys). "We gave the strategic ... team a variety of different data points and said, which of these are the highest priority?" Des said, explaining the collaborative selection process.
On assessments, Des and staff noted the state selected STAR as an approved interim assessment. Des said the district had already purchased EduCLIMBER as a data-tracking tool and that STAR's vendor integration with EduCLIMBER makes the two systems complementary. Des cautioned that although staff supports STAR for the quality of data, the state has not provided additional funding for required assessments, so the district must find a financial approach to pay for implementation.
Des said the strategic-plan dashboard will be a living document on the district website, with blacked-out initiative boxes for items still in development; at the next meeting the board will see additional work-products and have an opportunity to brainstorm priorities.
Next steps: strategic-plan data dashboards will be refined and presented at a future meeting; staff will develop systems to collect new measures such as exit interviews and first-year experience data.
