Garden Club promotes Red, White and Bloom, Arbor Day; council proclaims American Heart Month

Members of the Orange Beach Garden Club promoted their Feb. 11 "Red, White and Bloom" fundraiser and volunteers accepted the city's Arbor Day proclamation; the council also proclaimed February as American Heart Month and heard remarks from American Heart Association representatives.
At the Feb. 3 meeting the Garden Club addressed the council to promote its annual "Red, White and Bloom" game‑day fundraiser on Feb. 11 at the Orange Beach Event Center. A Garden Club representative said tickets are $35 and available at the Orange Beach Library and the Emporium, described past donations (including $1,000 to the wildlife center) and noted the club awards two scholarships annually.
The council read and adopted an Arbor Day proclamation naming Feb. 28, 2026 as Arbor Day in Orange Beach; Woody accepted on behalf of the city and outlined plans for a free tree giveaway (8 a.m.–11 a.m.) featuring live oaks, hickories, magnolias and citrus trees and family activities for children. The Garden Club will help with refreshments and children's crafts.
Council also proclaimed February 2026 as American Heart Month; Mike Pearson of the American Heart Association said heart disease remains a leading killer and thanked the council for recognition. An Art for Heart gala was announced for April 18 at the Orange Beach Event Center.
