Orange Beach council adopts beach-code overhaul for wetland preservation

The Orange Beach City Council on Jan. 6 adopted an ordinance amending and restating Chapter 30, Article 5 of the city’s beach code to add wetland preservation mitigation requirements.
Council moved to suspend the rules for immediate consideration and then voted by roll call to adopt the ordinance. The motion passed with all members present voting yes.
Mayor Kenan called for the roll before the final vote; council members who responded in the roll call included Council Member Silvers, Council Member Robertson, Council Member Harrelson, Council Member Stewart, Council Member Johnson and Mayor Kenan.
Council members offered no substantive amendments during the discussion and there were no recorded public objections during the meeting. The measure was advanced as part of the city’s regulatory updates related to beach and coastal management.
The ordinance amends the city’s existing Chapter 30, Article 5 (beach code) to address wetland preservation mitigation; the council moved for immediate consideration and adoption at the Jan. 6 meeting.
The council adjourned its regular meeting and continued scheduled business in a Committee of the Whole session following the adoption.
