Orange Beach council adopts zoning ordinance, approves Canal Road trail bid and other resolutions

The Orange Beach City Council adopted Ordinance No. 172 (zoning: "Kill storage phase 4" as read in the record) on second reading during its Sept. 17, 2024 meeting and approved several resolutions and contracts.

The roll call for Ordinance No. 172 recorded Council member Silvers as abstaining; Council members Mitchell, Blaylock and Boyd and Mayor Kenning voted yes, and the ordinance passed. The ordinance was moved by a council member and seconded during the meeting record.

Council also adopted a resolution appointing members to the city's solid committee (as presented), and moved to authorize an application to the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program for a first-responders safe room; both measures were approved by voice vote.

A performance contract with Tanner Myatt Golf Instruction Services was authorized by resolution and carried. The council approved awarding the bid for the Canal Road multi-use trail connectivity project to Wiregrass Construction Company; the amount read into the record was $3,679,000.700 (amount as spoken on the record). A council member observed the bid came in under budget.

Other administrative votes included approval of software and theater services agreements and acceptance of construction/roof-replacement design task orders as listed on the agenda. The meeting record shows motions were seconded and passed by voice vote where noted; where a roll-call vote was taken, the results are recorded above.

What happens next: the council adjourned the regular session and called the Committee of the Whole to consider additional items, including a petition to annex property submitted by David Gatlin and a set of public hearings scheduled for Oct. 15, 2024.
