Orange Beach council acts on licenses, purchases and franchises; approves tractor purchase

Orange Beach — In addition to the Saltwater Cottages PUD hearing, the Orange Beach City Council on Dec. 3 approved several routine and administrative items:
The council approved a restaurant retail liquor license for Barometer Grill (Tiki/Cornell Road) after the owner’s representative addressed the council in support of the application.
Resolutions adopted included authorization for the city to host community events on Feb. 20, 2025, and a professional services agreement with Lauren McCaughan for dance instruction connected to a local production (Shrek the Musical). Council also moved to postpone consideration of a proposed amendment to a Compass 360 grant‑writing agreement and postponed awarding an RFP for program administration services until the Dec. 17 meeting.
The council adopted a resolution authorizing the purchase of a farm tractor for the Coastal Resources Department ($108,812.10). Council members discussed justification, placement on public beaches vs. private beaches and alternatives; staff said the purchase replaces older equipment and suggested possible phased purchasing.
The council approved a right‑of‑way franchise with MCI Metro Access Transmission Services and renewed the city’s right‑of‑way franchise agreement with Mediacom Southeast. Each item passed by voice vote as recorded in the minutes.
