"Collectively, at the Christkindl market, dollars 60,923 was raised," an event organizer said during the meeting. Organizers thanked vendors and volunteers and noted some booster groups earned funds by operating parking and vendor booths.
Later in the meeting the tree commission presented its recommended official tree list. Tree commission chair Mr. Slaton described a multi‑year effort to identify 31 recommended tree species and a separate list of trees not recommended for planting in the city, citing disease resistance, size and suitability for small planting areas as criteria.
"We came up with a suggested list of 31 trees...and we also came up with a list of trees not to plant," Slaton said, adding the ordinance is intended as guidance to improve survivability and aesthetics in the city's plantings.
What happens next: The council noted the Tree City USA/Arbor Day dedication scheduled for Feb. 27 and indicated the tree list ordinance will be part of ongoing work by the tree commission and city staff to provide planting guidance to residents and developers.
