District outlines $11.7 million path-of-travel project to improve high-school stadium access and ADA compliance

Staff presented a project to improve accessibility and circulation along the athletic spine at Brea Olinda High School, saying geology and soil conditions require targeted remedial work before other improvements.
Rick (Staff member) explained that expansive fill and settlement in the athletic spine have created uneven walkways and stairs that are not ADA-compliant. He said a geology firm assessed the site and recommended removing topsoil and replacing it with engineered fill (two to three feet) and limestone base in critical areas to stabilize walkways and paving. Rick said that associated ramping, stair reconfiguration, lighting, drainage and other civil work had been budgeted in the bond program with a path-of-travel line item near $11.7 million.
Jeff Ferrotta and Rick detailed features the team is considering: switchback ramps, turnouts for maintenance carts, accessible viewing areas and improved drainage for fields and dugouts. They also noted opportunities to combine conduit placement for future IT and lighting improvements while the ground is opened. Staff cautioned that some scope (for example, large-scale excavation) is cost-prohibitive and that final scope will come into focus as design and geotechnical work progress.
No formal approvals were taken. Staff said they will return with refined estimates and proposed amendments to architect agreements for board consideration.
