Grand County Public Health informed the Board on Nov. 25 that it will pursue a laboratory services agreement with Quest Diagnostics after LabCorp significantly raised per‑sample charges for low‑volume cancer screening tests.
Hannah Weine, deputy director of Grand County Public Health, said LabCorp previously charged about $77 per sample but raised its price to nearly $360 for low‑volume work. Quest told staff it would not increase rates based on the number of tests received (though it may adjust for inflation), which would preserve the county’s ability to run screenings funded through the Taking Steps for Cancer Fund administered by Mountain Family Center.
Weine asked the board to approve opening an account and to authorize signature via Adobe Sign; the county attorney sign‑off was confirmed. A motion to approve the laboratory services agreement with Quest was carried unanimously.
Public health staff said the change is intended to protect the affordability of county screening programs; any future rate changes will follow contract terms and standard inflation adjustments.
The board approved the agreement and authorized the appropriate signatures to finalize the arrangement.
