Three public commenters used the March 3 Norwalk City Council meeting to press city leaders on immigration outreach, park restoration and family-support workshops.
Andy Scribe said many residents want the city to be more vocal and proactive on immigration enforcement and urged the council to submit comments opposing a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development rule he said could lead to evictions of mixed-status households. Scribe asked the city to use its platform and social channels to advocate for affected residents and urged people to participate in the rulemaking comment period.
Patty Delgadillo spoke for Hermosillo Park neighbors and said promised park amenities — including shade trees, picnic tables, a splash feature and restored grass — were removed during earlier work. She asserted that $8,500,000 (as stated by the speaker) must be returned if the state’s requirements were not met and urged attendees to avoid spreading what she called misinformation at the community meeting scheduled for March 18; she said the Hermosillo community only asks to restore previously existing amenities.
Anthony Menderes, representing the Gateway Project, invited parents, caregivers and community partners to two parent empowerment circles on March 14 and March 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Norwalk Sports & Arts Complex aimed at strengthening families through interactive, trauma-informed workshops.
The comments were made during the council’s oral communications period and did not result in immediate council action.
