At the Elbert County Board of County Commissioners’ Jan. 14 organizational meeting, commissioners approved a resolution setting 2026 appointments and term dates and elected leadership for the year.
The board nominated and approved Mike Buck for chair; the motion was seconded and carried. Commissioner Bach (speaker S3) accepted the selection, saying, "I'm honored, to be selected ... I have a meeting scheduled with Sherry next week ..." Officers also named Byron McDaniel vice chair; that vote registered opposition from one commissioner before the motion carried.
The board made a small set of changes to the draft resolution before approving it, including filling in the names for chair and vice chair and setting terms for the Noxious Weed Board (Pamela Brewster as vice chair, term through Dec. 31, 2027; other members through Dec. 31, 2028) and the Fair Board with terms ending Dec. 31, 2028. Staff advised commissioners that yellow-highlighted changes on the published document would need to be read into the record.
County counsel/staff recommended addressing any blank fields or additions one at a time and then approving the entire organizational document, which the board did after the discussed edits.
The board did not take additional substantive policy action in this item; it proceeded to a discussion of a county Subdivision Improvement Agreement draft later in the meeting.
