Williams itemized the work and bids: HVAC control upgrades cited at $8,612 for each of three schools; a five-ton HVAC unit listed at $113,074 for WJ Kurganes; and a 25-ton HVAC replacement for Roger Bell Academy listed at $117,461. He said the projects would be funded through the North Carolina Lottery Repair and Renovations Fund and that the school system had obtained winning bids.
Commissioners asked whether the Board of Education had formally voted on the projects and whether bid prices remained valid. Williams said the school board planned to take the approval to its next meeting and that the contractors had confirmed they could hold their bids.
Separately, finance staff requested and the board approved a budget amendment related to school capital outlay for Category 1 projects (projects over $100,000). Finance staff said one prior HVAC project came in under budget, producing $10,025 in savings, while a boiler replacement at Havelock High exceeded budget and required reallocation to cover the overage. The amendment was described in the record; the board approved it by roll call.
The motions passed by roll call; staff will proceed with contract execution and return to the board with any further required approvals.
