City staff presented a proposed update to La Verne’s agreement with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health on March 17, describing the revision as a modernization that replaces outdated statutory references but does not change services or add cost to the city.
Joshua Brobowski, director of governmental affairs with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (appearing online), said the draft standard agreement updates language to current statute and practice and preserves existing services at no additional cost to the city. "This is really just an opportunity for us to update very outdated agreements," he said.
Council members requested stronger lines of communication for future public‑health emergencies after recalling the early COVID‑19 response, when cities said they experienced abrupt directives and limited local consultation. Mayor and council asked the county to coordinate with city managers and local elected leaders before imposing measures that would materially affect local businesses and residents.
Staff indicated the matter will return on the April 7 agenda for further consideration and potential approval.
