"If we can do that this year, show them that we, the commission, care about our employees," the commissioner said when urging the board to approve the bonus.
Commissioners discussed whether constitutional officers should follow suit; the board clarified that constitutional officers are responsible for their own employees and that the county’s action covers county (BOCC) employees only. The clerk’s office will collect lists from department heads, add employee IDs, and process payments via direct deposit. County staff said the total number of full‑time BOCC employees to receive the bonus is 59; payroll and tax withholdings will be handled through normal payroll processes.
The board asked the clerk to notify constitutional officers of the plan and encouraged them to consider comparable one‑time payments from their budgets. The commission set a target for processing the payments promptly so employees would have the funds before the holidays.
