Dixie County OKs Fire Station No. 6 contract and moves forward on stormwater work; solid‑waste equipment under review

Dixie County commissioners approved several county manager recommendations including major construction and maintenance contracts and discussed solid‑waste equipment options.

County manager’s staff presented a request to approve the WH construction contract for an airport canal correction and stormwater improvement in the amount of $196,755 and the Grama Construction Services Inc. contract for Fire Station No. 6 for $2,546,219. Commissioners moved and seconded the contracts, and the board approved them by voice vote.

On operations, staff and commissioners discussed solid‑waste equipment. Estimates were shared for a refurbished compactor shipment (an example quote of $22,760 for shipping; vendor refurbishing costs discussed) and interest from a metals purchaser offering to pay about $300 per ton for scrap metal and to provide hauling and dumpster services at no charge. Commissioners debated leasing versus buying crushers and compactors and directed staff to continue procurement planning and cost analysis.
