Hayward Lakes Visitors and Convention Bureau reported high winter ad engagement and tens of thousands of website clicks; the bureau plans spring advertising and will highlight spring fishing during events connected to the governor's opener in May.
Mind y Simons, representing the Hayward Lakes Visitors and Convention Bureau, told the Sawyer County Economic Development Commission that the bureau's winter YouTube campaigns delivered strong engagement and meaningful website traffic.
—We actually had phenomenal performance,— Simons said, noting that the bureau saw hundreds of thousands of video engagements and tens of thousands of clicks to its winter activities pages. For the demand-generation ad set, she reported more than 1.2 million impressions and 45,271 clicks to the website, with 42,221 on-site engagements.
Simons outlined a spring slate of marketing that will spotlight spring fishing and other seasonal activities tied to hosting the governor's opener the first weekend in May. Planned buys include a live Fox 6 Milwaukee segment, print and digital partnerships with Wisconsin Outdoors, Star Tribune and Milwaukee Magazine, a Backroads commercial with Ron Sherra, and podcast appearances.
She also noted two state tourism award nominations from the Hayward area and said the bureau will continue running YouTube ads to support spring visitation.
Board members asked whether the governor or staff would use local roads for the governor's visit; Simons said the governor may attend destination spotlight tours that would travel locally but that attendance by the governor or staff was not confirmed. Several members raised concerns about the county's road conditions and urged staff to continue outreach to the Department of Transportation.
