Committee recommends easement to relocate drainage pipe under Kate Street building

The Jonesboro Public Works Committee recommended the full City Council accept a permanent drainage easement from Bridal District Investments LLC to relocate an existing drainage pipe on Kate Street.
Committee members were told the pipe runs north toward the railroad and is currently located beneath an existing building and cross‑connected with the City Water and Light sanitary sewer system. "It's actually underneath 1 of the buildings ... we're wanting to relocate it into this new easement, and abandon that old system," Craig said, explaining the relocation is needed because the current configuration cannot be maintained and is contributing to flooding in the city water/light sanitary system.
Resolution 26-017, as read to the committee, includes a legal description of approximately 3,342 square feet of easement. A motion to recommend the resolution to the full council was made and seconded; the committee signaled approval and the item will be forwarded for council consideration.
If approved by the full council, the mayor and city clerk would be authorized to execute documents to accept the easement and allow staff to relocate the drainage infrastructure out from under the private structure and into a maintainable public easement.
