A school representative and fifth-grade teacher (Mrs. Boucher) described partnerships with Friends of the Rappahannock, the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, the Fairfield Foundation and the Hampton Roads Sanitation District. Students shared short remarks about what they learned on field trips and in hands-on activities: "When Friends of the Rappahannock visited our class, we explored the outdoors," said Avery. Madden said he learned oysters can filter "up to 50 gallons per day," and other students described excavating artifacts, studying fish adaptations and building marble runs during Engineers Week.
Administrators and the board praised the partnerships as free learning opportunities for students and thanked teachers and community partners for their support.
