Board approves Concept 2 for South Park Community Center renovation
Summary

Town staff, working with HH Architecture, presented two conceptual designs for renovations to the South Park Community Center at 820 South Main Street. Concept 2 received majority support in public feedback (about 74% of survey respondents) and unanimous endorsement from advisory boards; staff recommended Concept 2 as the preferred option to expand the fitness area, improve circulation, isolate gym noise and create a clearer main entrance.
Director Cox noted an FY26 design allocation of $200,000, of which roughly $44,900 has been committed to assessment and conceptual work; additional design and construction funding will be refined during the design process and identified in the FY27 budget. Commissioners discussed whether the current design fee would need adjustment; staff said they expect to refine scope and negotiate a fee aligned with a selected concept.
Commissioner motioned and the board approved Concept 2 by voice vote. Staff will return with a negotiated design scope and cost estimates to be incorporated in the FY27 budget deliberations.
