Board approves payment of bills after questions on ISIC runoff, Aramark and reimbursements

The Board of Education approved payment of bills during its Feb. 10 meeting after staff answered member questions about several line items. A clerk read the motion approving payment as presented in the Feb. 10 agenda packet, the motion was seconded and the board approved the payment of bills by roll call.

A district administrator explained the district’s potential exposure related to ISIC, the district’s former liability insurance cooperative. The administrator said the cooperative closed but that bylaws require reconvening and possible district contributions if late claims emerge; the current payment is the district’s share for anticipated cooperative expenses related to an ongoing claim. "ISIC is the district's old liability insurance cooperative," the administrator said, and noted payments are assessed by district size.

The administrator also described the district’s contract practice with Aramark: the district pre-pays an annual contract amount to capture a 2% savings and separately pays overtime for special events and rentals. The administrator estimated event-related reimbursements typically range from about $25,000 to $35,000 depending on the year and said this year is tracking near $20,000. The administrator confirmed administrators receive cellphone reimbursement and said sometimes reimbursement requests are submitted in multi-month batches.

A staff member explained CareerSafe OSHA-authorized online training that Construction Tech 2 students take is funded by the district’s CTE Perkins grant so students obtain OSHA credentials before entering the workforce.

During the roll call approving payment of bills, board members recorded affirmative votes as read by the clerk; the clerk announced the motion carried.
