County agricultural staff explained the position supports inspections and grant‑funded work that helps the county recover reimbursement from state programs; they said the office historically relies on a mix of state reimbursement and local match to fund the unit. "We get about 40% of that money back at the end of the year from the state that I can claim back as reimbursement," a county ag representative said while describing staffing and funding tradeoffs.
Supervisor O'Reno moved to approve filling the position with onboarding to begin in coordination with HR for a July 1 start; Supervisor Carnell seconded and the motion was carried by the supervisors present.
Next steps: HR will proceed with advertising and recruitment with the goal of onboarding the hire effective July 1, 2026.
