San Marcos proclaims Overdose Awareness Month; community plans open‑mic Aug. 31 event

A community organizer said the second annual local Overdose Awareness event will be an open‑mic program at MOCAs and Java's on North LBJ on Sunday, Aug. 31, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and encouraged those with stories, poems or remembrances to attend. "It is an open mic... it's just a space for the community to come together and grieve and hopefully heal together too," the speaker said.
The mayor thanked organizers for hosting the event and for raising awareness in the community.
