Mayor Jane Houston read a proclamation declaring September 2025 as Hunger Action Month and highlighted the role of the Hays County Food Bank in addressing local food insecurity. The proclamation said that in 2024 the food bank and partners "served an average of 900 low‑income households each week," distributed "over 70,000 boxes of food," and moved "1,500,000 pounds of food" through six public distributions and 32 last‑mile sites; it also listed 1,500 holiday meal kits and noted that more than half the clients served were San Marcos residents, with 3,800 boxes distributed directly to San Marcos households.
A Hays County Food Bank representative told the meeting the organization had its first day of client shopping at a new client‑choice facility and is planning a community celebration later this month. The speaker urged community donations and volunteer help, explained a September cereal‑drive campaign called "Wake Up Hays County," and said the new facility’s address is 1612 South I‑35 Frontage Road.
The mayor thanked the food bank and encouraged residents and local groups to support donation and volunteer efforts.
