Bonita Unified board reports unanimous closed-session action, approves agenda and consent items

The Bonita Unified Board of Education reported that, after a closed session on Jan. 8, 2025, it took action "to uphold superintendent to provide appropriate notices," and recorded the motion as passing by unanimous roll call, a board member said. The board then approved the meeting agenda, adopted minutes from the Dec. 18, 2024 meeting and passed the consent calendar.
President Horsley opened the regular session at 5:02 p.m. and led the board in the Pledge of Allegiance. During a public report-out, board member Jim said: "In closed session, the board took action to uphold superintendent to provide appropriate notices. The motion was made by Chris Ann and seconded by Greg, and the roll call was unanimous." The report did not include additional operational details about the notices discussed.
Board members moved through routine business: they approved the meeting agenda by motion, adopted the Dec. 18, 2024 minutes and approved the consent agenda as a single action. Several trustees highlighted items on the consent calendar, including resolutions recognizing Black History Month, Career and Technical Education Month and National School Counseling Month.
Trustee Greg praised the district’s safety-first response to recent storms and commended school counselors, saying recognition of counselors "is the reason why I came onto the board years ago." Trustee Brittney also highlighted the upcoming resolutions and said she looked forward to celebrating those programs and observances in February.
The board received remarks on facilities and student activities from President Horsley, who praised facilities staff and congratulated Bonita High School student Noah McHale on qualifying for the Navy All-American Bowl. Superintendent Wayne (as identified in audience remarks) and others thanked operations and maintenance staff for preparing campuses, with specific recognition for Rob Harrison, Dane Curtis and Terry Quint for overnight work during the storm response.
The meeting concluded with the chair announcing the next regular board meeting is scheduled for Feb. 5, 2025. The session adjourned at 6:19 p.m.
