Senior Director of Curriculum Instruction Jamie Abushal presented Bonita Unified’s 2025 local indicators under the California Accountability Model and Dashboard, highlighting several district measures and survey findings before the board voted to adopt the district’s Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) and the 2025–26 budgets.
"So, the California Dashboard, as you know, is part of a larger effort by the state of California to, include multiple measures rather than just a single measure when we think about how we evaluate school progress," Abushal said, introducing local indicators that measure basic conditions, alignment to standards, parent and family engagement, local climate and access to a broad course of study.
Abushal reported the district has 458.6 full‑time‑equivalent teachers and that 91% of those are appropriately assigned; he said the district shows 100% access to instructional materials and that facility inspections indicate 100% of campuses are in good repair according to the facility inspection tool. On family engagement, Abushal cited WestEd and Panorama survey results: 84% of parents reported they feel welcome at district schools and 89% reported they feel respected; other engagement measures were described and small year‑to‑year changes were noted.
Board members and staff asked for additional data to better understand trends: requests included five‑year trend analysis, cohort tracking to follow groups of students over time, and copies of the specific WestEd and Panorama survey questions for comparison. A parent who addressed the board urged more action to increase parental input, saying the 63% active‑input measure feels low and may relate to students’ sense of belonging; Abushal and board members described existing social‑emotional learning curriculum (Second Step), mental‑health specialist supports and campus practices and agreed to explore focus groups and share comparative survey questions.
The board approved the LCAP and the 2025–26 budgets at the same public meeting, as required by the California Education Code; staff said the district will file the adopted LCAP with LACO following the meeting and the county is expected to respond in August. The board set its next regular meeting for Aug. 6, 2025 and adjourned at approximately 6:25 p.m.
