Bonita Unified swears in student board representatives; students highlight academics, activities and upcoming events

The Bonita Unified School District swore in three student board representatives and heard reports from each about academics, athletics and activities.
Student representatives Jacob, Savannah and Rochelle took the oath of office administered by district staff and a clerk. Jacob (introduced in the oath as Jacob Horace) opened his report addressing "President Horsley and members of the board, superintendent Ween, cabinet members, and audience," and outlined academic and extracurricular updates at San Dimas High School.
Jacob reported the district recently completed first-quarter progress reports and recognized 11 students for growth on an English Learner assessment; he said math teachers are preparing 11th graders for CAST testing and that a Panorama well-being survey will be administered in language arts classes. Jacob also described athletic and arts highlights and noted an upcoming Red Cross blood drive.
Savannah Marua, the Bonita High School student representative, told the board Bonita students took 1,290 AP tests with an overall pass rate of 82%, an 8 percentage-point increase from the prior year, and previewed Homecoming on Oct. 18 and a downtown parade coordinated with the city and LA County sheriff's office.
Rochelle Torres, from Chaparral High School, noted activities including student- and staff-of-the-month recognitions, the addition of freshmen to Chaparral Vista High School this year, ASVAB testing for juniors and seniors, and culinary and arts program achievements.
Board members and district leaders thanked the student representatives for their reports and said they look forward to continued updates.
The swearing-in and student reports were presented early in the meeting; the board proceeded afterward to routine business.
