Christina Owens, who identified herself as the parent of three district students and representing nine families, addressed the board during public comment to describe a recent hard lockdown that affected her children while they waited at a bus stop.
Owens said she received no timely district notification, that multiple phone calls to schools and the district operator went unanswered or offered only that a statement was being prepared, and that rumors circulated about whether the lockdown began at 7:00 a.m., involved a student with a gun or a bomb threat and whether classroom doors had locks. She asked the district to provide the lockdown policies and procedures that cover students at bus stops and arrival times so families would not be left to rely on rumors.
Board members later acknowledged the incident and thanked law enforcement partners — San Dimas Sheriff Station and La Verne Police Department — and district staff for their response; district staff and board members said they would continue to review emergency communications and procedures.
Owens closed her remarks with a personal appeal for clearer communications and trust between families and the district.
