Board adopts initial bargaining proposals for 2024–25 from CSEA and teachers association

The Bonita Unified School District Board held public hearings and then adopted initial proposals for 2024–25 negotiations with two employee associations.
Kevin Lee opened both hearings, citing the statutory process: “In accordance with section 3,547 of the Educational Employment Relations Act, CSEA and the district are submitting their initial proposals to open negotiations,” he said while reading the items that the board would consider. After the hearings, trustees moved and approved the CSEA initial proposal from Chapter 21 and the district’s corresponding proposal by voice vote.
The board then held the teachers association sunshine hearing, where Lee listed focus areas including class size, hours and evaluations. No public comments were raised on that item; the board adopted both the teachers association’s initial proposals and the district’s proposals for the 2024–25 round.
Board members thanked negotiating teams and staff for their work. Trustees did not resolve contract language in public session; the actions accepted the documents as the formal starting points for bargaining and did not finalize any final contract terms.
The board’s votes were recorded by voice; the motions carried. Lee and district staff will proceed with bargaining as the parties continue negotiation under state labor law.
