The Wimberley City Council postponed action on a temporary-structure renewal for a food trailer at 110 Old Kyle Road to allow staff time to draft clearer downtown rules on the number and placement of food trailers.
City staff explained the permit had previously been approved for 90 days and the applicant now seeks to return the trailer with a 10-by-10 canopy. Council members expressed concern about the municipal downtown overlay, the potential for multiple trailers to operate simultaneously on the property, restroom and sanitation considerations, and the relationship between local zoning and a state law (HB 2844) that takes effect July 1, 2026 and creates a more uniform state licensing system for mobile food vendors.
A council member moved to postpone consideration of the renewal so staff can review downtown policy and propose ordinance language limiting trailer numbers and clarifying permitting; the motion was seconded and passed. Staff said they will bring proposed ordinance language back to council for review.
