Wimberley council backs $100,000 LCRA grant application to replace downtown playground

WIMBERLEY — The Wimberley City Council voted Jan. 15 to support a Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) community grant application to replace the Martha Neese playground in downtown Wimberley.
City parks staff said the existing playground is more than 20 years old and no longer meets safety and accessibility standards. Staff recommended applying for the LCRA community grant and said the grant ceiling is $100,000: “The ceiling for the grant is $100,000 and that is what I will be applying for,” staff said.

City outreach — including a Facebook post linking to the official survey — produced more than 200 responses to the design questionnaire, staff said.
Council action: A councilmember moved to approve Resolution 01-2026 supporting the grant submission; the motion passed 4-0.
What’s next: Staff will submit the LCRA application before the stated deadline and continue refining the park design using public input. Staff noted other grant opportunities (PEC and others) could be available later in the year.
